Wall Media Units Design & Installation

Case Study 1

Two tone, two module media unit.

Initially contacted to wall mount the TV and Sonos Playbar with full cable concealment we then designed, manufactured and installed this wall unit to match. The client asked for a solution to hide the media boxes and outlets, we think this looks great and definitely serves the purpose.

The Process

As with most new developments the power and service cable outlets were positioned quite high up the wall, around the bottom of where the Playbar is now mounted. First these were moved down, HDMI cables etc...concealed in cavity, TV and speaker brackets installed, holes patched up and plastered. AV equipment left operational, this completed the first phase.

Based on discussions with the client we produced a CAD drawing with our proposal, the main requirement dimensionally was to keep the unit slim (close to wall) something that had proven to be the stumbling block when trying to source something themselves. Once manufactured and lacquered phase two could proceed. The unit was delivered to site, wall mounted using our heavy duty rail system and outlets attached to rear. We also incorporated full IR control for the outdated BT vision box, most devices now use Bluetooth or RF technology for remote control which works through closed door.

The Benefit

Hide ugly boxes and cables from sight and dust, child friendly, ability to hoover under unit, the space gained visually by seeing the floor beneath, light up underneath with a multicolor app controlled LED lightstrip like Philips "Hue" stuck to bottom. Create a real focal point in your room, like the fireplace used to be.

Made locally with a max two week turnaround after CAD design signed off, last min change of handleless trim from black to brushed silver benefited from this.

Case Study 2

Laminated, compact, two module media unit.

Initially contacted to wall mount the living room TV and Soundbar with full cable concealment we then took on this separate project in a smaller room.

The Process

Provide a compact solution for a small TV den. First we gathered the necessary dimensions to produce a CAD drawing and left behind our laminate sample brochure, again the main requirement was keep the unit slim (close to wall, and in height) as space limited. The client choose this matt porcelain panel with a brushed aluminium handleless trim, we think they got it perfect. Other trim options considered are pictured below.

Power and service outlets are rarely where needed for wall mounted TV installations and one of the ethernet ports supplied a video link from a centrally located HD Anywhere matrix switch. First we relocated outlets to the centre of the wall, concealed HDMI cables etc...in cavity, mounted TV and speaker brackets, patched up holes then plastered ready for decorating. The wall was plasterboard which can prove to be a challenge if using off the shelf units from Ikea etc...our rail mount system solves this. The full installation was completed in 7 hours.

The Benefit

A small bedroom transformed into a mini media room.
